I went on a fabulous trip to Boston with two of Travis' sisters, Angie and Heather. Heather was running to Boston Marathon so Angie and I went to cheer her on and have a little "Girls' Get Away". We shopped, ate yummy food, shopped, toured Boston, went on a couple of runs along the Charles River, stayed up late, slept in watched chick flicks and shopped some more. The Boston Marathon was very inspiring, who knows I just might run a marathon one day. Heather did amazing and it was fun to be on the side lines to cheer her on.
It was hard to come back to my Mommy duties even though I missed my sweet kids and wonderful husband. Travis was such a sweetie to let me go for 5 days and leave him with all of my responsibilities plus work and school. When I got home the house was spotless and all of the laundry was done. The kids asked me when I could go on another trip because they had so much fun with Daddy. Thanks Travis for making it possible for me to go on such a fun trip.
My sisters-in-law are more than family they are great friends. Thanks Heather for inviting me and Angie to share this wonderful and exciting adventure with you! I am looking forward to our next sisters trip, hopefully Lisa, Roxanne and Katelyn can be there too.
A couple of mornings we went on a little run along the Charles River which was in front of our hotel. The view was spectacular, we ran in front of MIT and across a gorgeous bridge. It was fun to see the rowers and sailboats. The morning of the Marathon, Angie and I decided to go on our own little run since Heather was doing a big run. The views were so amazing that I was not watching where I was going and tripped on a huge crack on the sidewalk and went flying. I had a few choice words to say while I was in the air because I could tell the fall was not going to be pretty. I had a gash out of my hand and a bruise on my arm the size of Travis' fist, along with a few scratches on my knees and arms. It was not a pretty sight. I was more embarrassed than anything else. I got right back up and continued our run. It was too beautiful to stop.
We went on a DUCK tour of Boston. These tour vehicles are very interesting because they can drive on land and then can drive right in the river. They also have these same kind of tours in Seattle. It was a very amusing tour, (the driver was a little crazy and there was about 20 girls there for a bachlorette party). It was a great way to see Boston and learn about the history.
The history in Boston is amazing. This is in front of Paul Revere's house. It was neat to learn about his life. I wish my Dad could have been there with me, he could have been our own personal tour guide because my Dad is a big history buff and knows a lot about almost everything. I bought my kids the book, Paul Revere's Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
This is right in the middle of Northend, also known as Little Italy. There are 100 Italian restaurants in just a couple of blocks. We randomly chose a restaurant that was really good and our waitor was very Italian, if you know what I mean.
The day before the Marathon was the Olympic Trials for the Women's Marathon. The route came right in front of our hotel. These women were amazing, like machines. They have incredible bodies. The girl in the blue is Deena Kastor who won the bronze metal in 2004 and took 1st in the trials. She ran this race in 2 hours and 29 minutes, she was incredible.
We went to the finish of the Boston Marathon the night before the race to take pictures and see what it was like. We knew we would not get any where near it the day of the race since there were 27,000 runners. Heather's good friend and running partner, Amy, happened to be there at the same time. Angie and I had to take a picture, maybe one day we will be running it together.
This is at mile 25, Heather is the cute one in pink booking it up the hill.
Heather ran the marathon in honor of her 5 year old niece, Mara, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Heather ROCKS!
Angie treated us to one of the best dinners I have ever had at a restaurant on top of a building overlooking all of Boston. We went to celebrate Heather's marathon and end our trip on a perfect note.
